I've been an administrative assistant for many years in several companies. I spent the past 8 years working for an attorney in a very small firm. He made the decision to retire however his plans did not include any arrangements for my future in the firm or elsewhere.
I am single and cannot rely on anyone else to help me financially so I had to find a job. I know there are laws against age descrimination but the reality is youth sells and my appearance now reflects my maturity. So competition for the positions I am qualified for will be tough.
I spent hours calling business acquaintences and friends trying to find a position open anywhere that was a good fit. I guess the economy really is as bad as they say. I didn't think much about it until I was without a job.
My family suggested I find resources on the internet and create a plan of attack. So I searched the internet for career resources. One of the best sites I found was Patience and Purpose. It gave me a good place to find all kinds of resources. I spent hours searching many of the partners provided.
The best resource that Patience and Purpose provided me was the "Things I Must Do" check list. Once I had gone through the list and set up a personal plan, I became empowered in my job searching. The plan then became my current job which was finding a new career.
I am now employed for another attorney making more than I did before. The devastation I felt after losing my last job was neutralized once I created and worked my daily plan toward a new place of employment. I really owe Patience and Purpose a great thanks for providing the resources that led to where I am today.
Be sure to take the time to work through the "Things I Must Do" list. |
